Principal’s Message

Welcome to St Patrick’s Boys’ National School Skibbereen. The school opened in 1921 in Market Street Skibbereen and moved to its current location on the outskirts of the town in 1981. Originally a junior school and a senior school, the schools amalgamated in 2015. Our school established one of the first classes for Autism and now has three ASC classes Our school strives to be a safe place where young people are happy and where they feel valued and cherished. Respect and inclusion are core values of our school and children are at the centre of everything we do.

Our highly dedicated and motivated staff works to create a nurturing environment where every child can reach their potential. We set high academic standards for our pupils and encourage each individual to reach their own potential. We also value a balanced education and strive to develop the emotional, physical, moral and spiritual potential of every child. Learning to write and read is important – but so is knowing the difference between right and wrong, how to treat people with respect and how to kick a ball and sing a song. Most important of all, children should have fun.

Our school believes each child should enjoy as many experiences as possible while in primary school – a wide variety of sports, artistic and creative opportunities, quizzes, school choir, gardening, debating, Junior Entrepreneur Programme – the list is endless. We are lucky to have room on our grounds for our award winning garden. We are located directly opposite to Skibbereen Sports Centre and enjoy the use of their fantastic facilities. We are within walking distance of the playground and library and the beautiful town of Skibbereen. Community links are very important to us and we work closely with local businesses and sporting organizations. Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine.

The entire school community – staff, pupils, parents, Board of Management and the wider community work together for the children of our locality and we are all very proud of our school.

Ní neart go cur le chéile.
