Skibbereen Youth Choir

Skibbereen Youth Choir began in 2009 with girls from St. Joseph's and boys from St. Patrick's primary schools. Each September we extend an invitation to all children of our community through the parish newsletter, to join our choir. The Choir was founded to allow the young people of our community to meet and sing to enhance the Saturday evening Mass in our beautiful St. Patrick's Cathedral. .Group singing is known to enhance well being and being part of a choir improves confidence, memory and vocal skills. It is also very important that our children are allowed time to chat and socialise together. Over the past nine years our choir has taken part in many community concerts singing with the during a fundraiser for Aurelia Trust and in a community concert in Abbeystrewery church accompanying The Three Tenors . At present our choir has 68 members from second to sixth class and sing at monthly masses in conjunction with the Sacramental Masses organised by our very effective parish councils. We are incredibly blessed to have the family support of our members and the wonderful musical skill of Anne O'Donovan . We are very grateful to our priests Fr. Michael and Fr. Chris and our Sacristan Bernie who prepares the Cathedral for our Masses and support us during the year and treat our choir to a cinema trip every year. We love what we do and would hope to continue to grow from strength to strength. We welcome new members each year.
